Who's Yasmin Ahmad?
If you don't know her, there can be 2 valid reasons why so:
1) Your too into overseas movies you fail to see the talents of our local culture
2)You don't watch local movies
3) Your just ignorant
4)Your a really sad case..
Yasmin Ahmad made headlines a few years back with her movies Sepet and Mukhsin. She also produced some local adverts that carries deep meanings if pondered on properly.
Go google her and read on her many stunning achievements.
Or just click here and read bout her.
While your at it,check out her blogs too.
And her new blog :)
And from me,I have to say she knocks my socks off on my previous perception of local films.
Yes,Truth betold,i was no2.
To be honest,I wouldn't have really known bout her work if i hadn't made that trip to Singapore as a stop over from KK. Can you believe it took me an overseas trip just to see how talented some of our locals are? Seriously, back here we don't really publize much about the local works but over there, they are making it like some huge event of a thing.Do we under appreciate our local talents?
Anyway,Singapore hired her to make a film about family. As you know,Singapore's population is slowly decreasing by the years as more and more new families only opt for 1 child only following China's policy due to its overpopulation. But I guess in Singapore its more of a different pov that causes most families to opt for 1 child only.Namely :
1)Small housing areas = grandpa says they live in Pigeon holes :)
2)The stress level = Not just from the education but also the working environment. From a medical point of view its unhealthy in both ways leading to depression and suicide and of course, infertility.
3)We are the future generation = thats from a song that I kinda forgot bout, only that line.Think it was from Burn Out 3.Anyways,being the future generation we place our career first over marriage and building a happy family.Mainly cause more and more women are seeing it as a form of pre-historic thinking to just confined themselves to household duties when there is so much to gain from the pre-historic men's world. With that in mind, more and more couples are marrying late. Then cames the media who imprints this idea that there is always this of-so-perfect guy out there for us and being women who grew up on fantasy storied bout Knights in Shining armours and what not,we tend to restrict ourselves to that dream of meeting that person. This kidan applies to the men too so don't think you guys escape this.Like how Snow White sang :
Some day my prince(princess) will come
But wake up!
Thats not really the reality.
So back to the why this post is up.
Because their population is decreasing by the year, the Singapore goverment hired Yasmin to do a advert to dispel the populations believes.
Before I put the video up (or your probably reading this while its loading),try not to think of what its really screaming at you. They say a picture paints a thousand words.Try to read the other 999 words its painting.
Millions of kudos to her.
This little advert is titled The Funeral.
